Talking with your children about drugs and alcohol

Talking early and openly to your kids about drugs and alcohol can be a great first step in preventing them from abusing substances like tobacco, alcohol, and prescription drugs. Below, please find some great web resources for helping you and your children to understand the dangers of substance use and abuse as well as tips for talking with your children:

  • The Partnership at Drugfree.org is a website focused on drug abuse prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery resource, existing to help parents and caregivers effectively address alcohol and drug abuse with their teens and young adults.. Visit their website here!
  • Drug Free New Hampshire is a website designed to help individuals, families, and communities to get informed, get involved and get help! You will find information on prevention efforts, effects of alcohol and other drugs, guidance on recovery and treatment and links to programs in the Granite State . . . and more. Visit their website here!
  • The North Country Report Card, which comes out every two years, is a measurement of rates of alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use among youth, as well as a indication of how youth feel about using these substances.   The data is based on the Youth Risk Behavior Surveys initiated by the state of New Hampshire's Department of Education.   You can download the report card here
