Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Preparedness

Preparing for emergencies is not new. You take steps to stay safe every day. For instance, you wear your seat belt in the car just in case you are in an accident. You make your children wear helmets when they ride their bicycles. You double check your iron to make sure it is unplugged. Your great-grandparents probably had extra supplies in their home: soap and shampoo in bathroom closets, onions and potatoes stored in the basement, and canned goods on pantry shelves. They understood the value and wisdom of having a little extra on hand for emergencies, too.

New Hampshire has its share of emergencies including ice storms, tornadoes, floods and power outages. That is why New Hampshire launched the ReadyNH Stay.Leave.Connect campaign. The materials on this Web site can help you and your family to stay safe and be prepared for any emergency.

The ReadyNH campaign and materials were developed by the Community Health Institute in collaboration with the NH Department of Health and Human Services, the NH Department of Safety, the NH Governor's Commission on Disability, the American Red Cross Granite Chapter, Granite State Independent Living, the NH Public Health Networks, and Volunteer NH! The ReadyNH campaign is based, in part, on the Ready campaign of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and on the work of the Cambridge and Montgomery County, Md., Advanced Practice Centers.  www.nh.gov/readynh/
